What you need to know when buying an organic, natural or latex mattress

Scott Polachuk

Waking up on the wrong side of the bed is perhaps one of the worst feelings in the world. Choosing the right mattress for you can be the difference between a good and bad day, with a lumpy mattress surface and creaky springs potentially resulting if you make a poor choice.

Below, we detail three different types of mattress – organic, natural and latex – from which you can choose.

Organic mattresses

Are you an eco-warrior, constantly searching for biodegradable and non-synthetic products to aid your night’s sleep? Well, an organic mattress might be just right for you.

Made with no pesticides and a chemical-free process, organic mattresses are definitely a long-term sleep investment. Mattresses of this cheap and readily available type are often made from organic cotton, wool or latex as well as naturally flame-resistant.

Not only helping to reduce your carbon footprint by being completely biodegradable as well as being hypoallergenic, organic mattresses are also wonderful at regulating body temperature. By keeping you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, organic mattresses provide a durable as well as a supportive cushion for your body.

Organic mattresses are also a sustainable sleep aid. As a result of the organic materials the mattress is made from, such as wool, cotton and latex, no toxic chemicals are used during the process of making the mattress. Hence, organic mattresses are also much longer-lasting than other synthetic mattresses, as they do not break down or wear out as quickly.

Natural mattresses

Like the name suggests, natural mattresses are made from almost entirely natural materials such as cotton, wool, alpaca, bamboo, hemp, silk, mohair and many other different kinds of naturally-sourced materials.

Developed to create a naturally antibacterial support, natural mattresses are known for keeping people cool and moisture-free throughout their night-time sleeping. Rather than being made from synthetic fibers such as synthetically-produced latex or polyurethane foam, natural mattresses give you sleep as nature intended.

Depending on the natural material you choose, your natural mattress can also be more elastic and springier than conventional synthetic mattresses. As a result of their supportiveness, natural mattresses are a wonderful alternative to polyester mattresses. As natural mattresses are hypoallergenic, they provide a convenient solution for allergy or asthma sufferers.

Natural mattresses are readily available from a wide variety of mattress sellers; however, this is dependent on which natural material you wish your mattress to be made from.

Latex mattresses

With the average human sleeping approximately 9,125 days of their lives, the perfect mattress is an absolutely essential investment in your life.

Typically, mattresses are made from many layers which include a latex foam core. This means that latex mattresses are much more common than you think. Natural latex mattresses are often made from latex derived from rubber trees and mixed with antioxidants as well as ammonia in order to preserve the latex.

Comprising a very flexible material, latex mattresses are among the most supportive mattresses available. Conforming to each and every position you make when asleep, latex mattresses help to relieve pressure as well as support your back. Latex mattresses are very elastic and durable, helping to provide you with a comfortable and unique night’s sleep.

Although these types of mattresses are often on the pricier end of the mattress spectrum, they can represent a wonderful investment for your sleep, especially if you often suffer with back or neck issues as a result of sleeping on the wrong mattress for you.
