When is Cyber Monday 2018 and where will the best deals be in the US?

Carl Lambert

Like most Americans, it’s likely that you have already started your Christmas shopping – but, for now, you may want to hang tight until Cyber Monday. This means you can complete the entirety of your holiday shopping list either from your desk, on your way to work, in front of the TV or even from bed. Cyber Monday 2018 falls on November 26th – and, come the big day, shoppers are predicted to spend an average of over $205. In fact, last year, Americans collectively racked up $6.6 billion in online sales, making it the biggest online shopping day ever. That total is set to be tipped again this year!

It can be hard to know where to shop on Cyber Monday, and you can be forgiven for having some cynicism about the nature of the savings. You’re also likely to be wondering what the difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is. Black Friday discounts tend to focus on specific items – with, for example, $200 off a Smart TV at Best Buy. Meanwhile, Cyber Monday features discounts site-wide, possibly in a bid to shift any leftover merchandise. Even so, the discounts are broad and flexible — last year, Target offered 15% off all of the products on its website and Claire’s Accessories discounted nearly all of its items by 50%.

Where to buy

Amazon generally leads the pack when it comes to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The online retail giant isn’t limited with its consumer base and is open to everyone for everything. It’s a one-stop online shop – and, last year, a third of the deals from Amazon were marked as Editor’s Choice, with discounts covering a whole manner of items from TVs to toys to apparel. The only criticism of Amazon is that you must be quick, as most of the discounts are short-lived lightning deals.

If you’re after some new sneakers, look no further than Foot Locker. The footwear giant doesn’t heed sales too often, but Cyber Monday is one of the few instances where you’ll be able to make a saving. The company generally offers a site-wide discount of 20% with no minimum spend. However, this only includes certain brands, so if you’re after a pair of Nike sneakers, it may be best to shop around or head to the brand’s official website.

It’s possible that you may be left unsatisfied by Black Friday – and, if this is the case, Best Buy’s Cyber Monday’s deals are sure to put a smile back on your face, particularly if you’re on the hunt for a new TV. Last year, Best Buy had a plethora of deals – and 70%, almost three-quarters, of them were Editors’ Choice picks. Best Buy has excellent prices on games consoles, home appliances, smartphones and Amazon devices – but the real savings lie with the TVs.

Target is always big on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday – and whispers are already beginning to start regarding the department store giant’s sales. You’re more than likely to see savings on TVs, smartphones, games consoles and much, much more.

Whilst the iPhone XS is too new to offer any discount, it’s almost a given that those that do buy Apple’s latest release will receive a free gift card of up to $250 with their purchase. Gift cards will also probably come with the likes of PS4 and Xbox One X bundles, Apple Watches and the Google Home Mini – though, of course, the total of each gift card will vary depending on how much you spend. In regards to the TVs on sale, we’re talking about a saving of around the $190 mark on an off-brand 55-inch 4K TV.

What to look out for

You should certainly look out for free shipping, as it’s no secret that it is something Americans have come to expect and we don’t just want it free, we want it quick. The likes of Best Buy, Target and Walmart are all offering free shopping not only during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales but for the entirety of the holiday shopping season. Those like Toys R Us and Macy’s are not yet on board – but, during the sales’ times, we can expect to see lowered minimum-purchase requirements in return for free shipping and, by the time Cyber Monday 2018 does come around, we expect that many more retailers will be on board.

Keep your eyes peeled for not only free shipping but also any last-minute announcements and deals through email or social media. Also, remember to turn on push notifications or sign up to your favourite store or brand’s mailing lists. If there is an abundance of stock left over from Black Friday sales, retailers will discount accordingly on Cyber Monday and use social media and email blasts to promote this.

Walmart is holding a live-streamed five-hour event on its website on Cyber Monday, starting at 9am and finishing at 2pm with gift ideas and product demonstrations on offer. Dell is also in action with hourly doorbusters between 8am and 8pm along with some of the computer technology firm’s lowest prices ever.
